About RCVO @ Volunteer Alberta

RCVO@Volunteer Alberta is the information resource for Alberta's nonprofit/voluntary sector.  With over 1 million website hits per year, nonprofit/voluntary organizations and individuals rely on RCVO for information, support, advice, and tools required to meet their organizational challenges.

History:

Since its original formation in 1987 as a fundraising resource centre, the Resource Centre for Voluntary Organization (RCVO) has continued to expand its services and programs to provide resources and build the capacity of nonprofit/voluntary organizations in Alberta.

Over the years, Grant MacEwan University provided invaluable stewardship to RCVO, originally in support of the Executive Leadership program and the nonprofit/voluntary sector.

In 2004 the RCVO reaffirmed its core mission:
to provide and/or facilitate access to information, advice and tools that build capacity and expertise within the voluntary sector.

The RCVO continued to develop an extensive nonprofit sector related resource collection and has provided access to this collection to groups and individuals in communities across Alberta. This collection and its consulting connections have assisted nonprofit organizations in areas such as, board and staff development, fundraising efforts and more.

On January 1, 2011 ownership of the RCVO resource collection transitioned from Grant MacEwan University to Volunteer Alberta in an effort to maintain more sustainable resources for Alberta's nonprofit/voluntary sector.  Through Volunteer Alberta's provincial membership network, the RCVO collection is more readily available to groups across the province. See media release.

Volunteer Alberta is well-positioned to leverage its province-wide networks to expand the RCVO collection's reach. RCVO will now provide volunteers and nonprofit organizations access to enhanced technical infrastructure, accessible resources, and expert advice.

RCVO @Volunteer Alberta continues to provide information and resources on a number of topics including:

  • Organizational Management
  • Leadership
  • Fund Development
  • Volunteer program management
  • Board Leadership and Governance
