Who uses the
RCVO@Volunteer Alberta library?
- RCVO@Volunteer Alberta's direct clientele are Alberta's many
non-profit/voluntary sector organizations. The diversity of
resources offered by the RCVO library can benefit
organizations across Canada. Individuals and non-profit/voluntary
sector organizations, regardless of geographic location, have
access to resources online at RCVO's website free of charge.
- Volunteer Alberta's members have
special access to resources in several ways:
- Access to the Imagine Canada Database
- Borrowing privileges - regardless of the members' location -
through interlibrary loans
- Access to one-on-one sessions with our librarian, who can
provide insight and assistance, search for resources, and make
recommendations to maximize your research
- Individuals in the area are welcome to visit the RCVO on site
by appointment, browse the library collection, and conduct
on-site research. The library also offers an annual/per use fee for
individuals interested in accessing the RCVO@Volunteer Alberta
resources.
What is in the library?
RCVO@Volunteer Alberta strives to be a hub of
non-profit/voluntary sector resources and information. We are
always adding new books, online material, and enhanced services to
create the best research facility in the sector. The
RCVO@Volunteer Alberta Library houses more
than 2,500 resource items, and has a library professional
to help members search for resources. Additionally, the Imagine
Canada database is
accessible for Volunteer Alberta members. RCVO@Volunteer
Alberta also offers many books for sale
on diverse subjects. For a full booklist, please visit
the online bookstore.
Can I
borrow books?
- Absolutely! RCVO@Volunteer Alberta has access to a wide range
of books on non-profit/voluntary sector-related subjects from the
RCVO@Volunteer Alberta collection. Members of Volunteer Alberta can
borrow books from the RCVO Library free of charge.
- Our online catalogue will have books we recommend from the
Grant MacEwan library and these may be borrowed with The
Alberta Library (TAL) membership from your local public library.
- The loan period for an RCVO@Volunteer Alberta book
is two weeks, with renewal available.

How do I become a Volunteer
Alberta member and borrow resources?
Learn more about the benefits of library resource borrowing and
many other benefits available through membership with Volunteer Alberta. The
reason RCVO@Volunteer Alberta requires borrowers to be members is
to better track resources and off-set associated borrowing,
shipping and administrative costs. Anyone is able to access and
consult the resources at the RCVO@Volunteer Alberta office,
but borrowing is another great member benefit.
How do I access online
resources?
RCVO@Volunteer Alberta's resources are available online under
the 'Learning Resource Guide' heading on the left-hand side menu.
You have access to a comprehensive collection of free, online
resources on a wide range of subjects to help organizations and
individuals nation-wide conduct self-led research on the
non-profit/voluntary sector.
Some RCVO Library resources are content from web pages. These
items are classified as "Electronic resources" and are accessible
from the internet. To access, expand the record into full
display by clicking on the item's title. Then, click the link in
the URL field to go directly to the item.
