The Charities File:
Training and Resources to Complete the T3010A

The Charities file is a joint project of the Canadian Federation of Voluntary Sector Networks and the Centre for Voluntary Sector Research and Development, funded by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). Their goals are to increase awareness among charities about annual compliance requirements of the Government of Canada; provide training on how to complete and submit accurate information returns, on time; and, to develop and post learning resources on charitable returns.

Cultural Human Resources Council

The CHRC provides tools and resources related to human resources development in cultural and arts organizations. Apart from offering a variety of Human Resource tools and resources online, the site also offers information on a Youth Internship Program (YIP) that the Council runs in conjunction with the Federal government. The YIP offers 6-12 month paid internships in exciting and diverse cultural organizations and disciplines.

The HR Council for the Voluntary & Non-profit Sector (HR Council) works with organizations, educators, labour and government to identify and address issues related to paid employment in the voluntary and non-profit sector.

IMIT Canada

"IM/IT Canada's mission is to help voluntary sector organizations translate technology's promise into a stronger organization which ultimately creates better client service and a stronger community." Through a network of locally based affiliates, IM/IT (Information Management/Information Technology) Canada provides advice on technology related issues to the voluntary sector.

The IM/IT website contains a resource library, forums and voluntary sector technology news. Numerous links to other information technology sites are also included.

The Internet Nonprofit Center publishes the Nonprofit FAQ, a resource of information provided by participants in many online discussions about nonprofits and their work. The site also offers online fundraising resources and a system called Idealist, which acts a matchmaker for volunteers and nonprofits.

As the name suggests, this site contains resources covering the nuts and bolts that hold a successful not-for-profit together. Topics such as fundraising, volunteer management, leadership issues are just some of the issues covered. Geared towards the busy nonprofit professional, the site lets you browse some of the articles from current and back issues of newsletter, Nuts and Bolts. The site also offers other free articles and resources, and an online used book store.

MAP stands for Management Assistance Program. The site states that “MAP provides quality, affordable management and board development services for nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies, and religious institutions.” Although this is an American Organization, their website offers free online newsletters and library resources.

This American online newsletter site describes itself as “The Leading Business Publication For Nonprofit Management.” Their newsletter (subscription is free) archives covers a diverse range of nonprofit topics, and the site features both a resource directory and job board.

The Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management

In January 2003, the Peter F. Drucker Foundation transferred its activities to the Leader to Leader Institute. The mission of this institute is “to strengthen the leadership of the social sector.” It does so by providing resources and training opportunities. The site offers workshops, training programs and downloadable documents. The site also makes it easy to purchase videos and books by Peter F. Drucker and his colleagues through Amazon.com.
